POZ Tear Sheets (Jan 2012)
Got my copies of this month’s POZ magazine, which includes portraits from two separate shoots I did last month. One with the kick-ass Congresswoman Barbara Lee from California. It was very cool to be shooting on the balcony outside Rep John Lewis’s office with the Capitol Building in the background.
Richard Sennett for The University of Chicago Magazine
Just got my copy of this month’s University of Chicago magazine which includes a few portraits from a shoot I had with sociologist Richard Sennett. Nice guy and quite the musician. In fact while I was ringing his doorbell he was sitting at his Steinway reading through some Brahms.
Day 318: The Brits and their Chocolate Cream Pie
When they asked what dessert they could make I recalled my childhood when my mother would make a chocolate cream pie from boxed chocolate pudding. Figuring that would be fun, interesting, easy, and very American I put it to Craig and Lisa as a suggestion. Instead they did some internet research and spent four hours on a from scratch chocolate custard pie with three types of organic chocolate, never understanding my original intention of making it easy and campy for them. Only when the whole thing was coming together at the end did they realize that they could have just used pudding. As Lisa later recounted, “It’s fucking chocolate pudding!”. It however tasted so much more amazing than that, so today I’M thankful for the misunderstanding.

Jonathan Coulton
A few weeks ago I spent a couple of portrait sessions with singer/songwriter extraordinaire Jonathan Coulton taking some pictures to help promote his new record Artificial Heart (which he kindly offers in lossless FLAC files, wish more artists did this). For the record, on top of being a great musician he’s also a terribly nice guy.
Here are the fruits of our labor, hope you like them.
