October Project Update – 2 days til
So a lot has happened in the planning for my next project which was codenamed STRIKING.
I’ve gotten a lot of submissions to be part of the project and have started filling in dates. However I may be traveling a bit at the end of the month, so I might do 20-25 in total. I’ll most likely shoot everyday, but I’m not going to kill myself to do it. This one isn’t like 365. I’d rather have them all be great than have them every single day.
Also, as I mentioned in my last post about it, I’ve come up with rules for myself. It’s going to give me some walls to work within and they’re 3 things that I tend not to do naturally, so they’re going to pull me out of my element. So once again, here are the rules.
1) All images will be landscape orientation. That is, wider than they are tall.
2) All of the images will use setup lights of some sort. No all available light shoots.
3) None of the subjects will be looking at the camera. (this one’s for Meggers)
I’ve also decided that I don’t want to take normal portraits of people. That I can do, I need to do something different. So, to that end the images are going to be more posed than I normally do. And hopefully each one will have character and maybe tell a story. This means better settings and better styling and a lot more work. But I’m always up for a challenge. Oh and I’m going to shoot them wide-angle, that gives me a nice cinematic perspective.
If anyone has any ideas for settings that would be good around Manhattan or Brooklyn, let me know.
Also, I’m looking for assistants to tag along an help if they’re interested. I’ve already got a few, but the more the merrier.
Oh and more subjects are also very welcome. I have a bunch, but the larger the pool, the better a group it can be distilled down to.
Starting on Thurs afternoon with a woman named Lidia.
October Project Constraints
I’m working on setting up subjects and ideas for my October project, codename STRIKING.
The thing is, I want to set myself up with some constraints as an exercise. To push myself into doing thing I would not have normally done. So here are the rules I’m thinking of.
1) All images will be landscape orientation. That is, wider than they are tall. (I’ve also considered square.
2) All of the images will use setup lights of some sort. No all available light shoots.
3) and this is a big one for me. None of the subjects will be looking at the camera. (this one’s for Meggers)
There may be more, and these might change, but that’s what I’ve got so far.
Comments please.
