New Project – Scaredy Cat Subjects Needed
I’ve got the kernel of a new portrait project and I need your help finding subjects.
I’m looking for people with interesting phobias which they’d be willing to face while in front of a camera. The weirder the better.
For an simple example, I had a good friend who has been terrified of snakes since a traumatic experience as a little girl. The idea would be to shoot her portrait holding a snake. Maybe even in the same location as the incident.
Fear of heights, open spaces, crowds of people, red food, paper, public bathrooms, you name it, I want it.
Think of it as a way to face irrational fears and make something great in the process.
Other stuff you’ll need:
- You need to be in NYC for the shoot.
- You will be required to sign a model release.
- You understand that this is not an opportunity for a free headshot or portrait session.
- Most importantly I want people who want to make something great.
So if you meet all these requirements then send me an email to bill@billwadman.com with:
- A brief description of your phobia and perhaps how far you’d be willing to go confronting it.
- A recent picture of yourself
- Your whereabouts in NYC
- Your general schedule or particular dates which might work
- Any interesting places you have access to which might make for an interesting setting
Thanks so much and please spread the word.
Subjects Required: December Portrait Project
As many of you know, I’ve been doing a photo-a-day series this year, but I though I’d up the ante in the final month by shooting all portraits and hopefully dramatic ones at that. Something akin to the pictures from my Drabbles series from a couple years ago if you wanted a point of reference. That plus 30-40% better.
Here’s what I know so far. They’re going to be environmental portraits, many will involve multiple people, some will take their inspiration from old paintings. I’ve got a handful of solid ideas to start from and I’m sure plenty more to come.
To that end I need a pool of subjects, ideally lots of them to choose from to fit my needs. So if you’re interested in participating here’s what you need to know.
- You need to be in NYC or can be in NYC for the shoot. (I’ll also be in the Arlington, VA / DC area from the 22nd-27th if you live down there)
- You need to be reliable, because I’m doing one a day and the shoots will often require a bit of planning and involve other people so I can’t have you canceling at the last minute.
- You need to be willing to play a role and possibly ham it up a bit for the camera if necessary.
- You understand that this is not an opportunity for a free headshot or portrait session.
- You will be required to sign a model release.
- Most importantly I want people who want to make something great.
So if you meet all these requirements then send me an email to bill@billwadman.com with:
- A recent picture of yourself
- Your whereabouts in NYC
- Your general schedule or particular dates which might work
- Any interesting places you have access to which might make for an interesting setting
As I book certain dates, I’ll be updating this public google calendar to show which slots are taken.
Thanks so much and please spread the word.
Dave Keener CD
In the mail today I was surprised to find a copy of the second CD I’ve designed in as many months for my good friend Dave Keener.
Front cover sculpture by Rob Meyer, he designs & builds fantastically cool furniture.
For those interested in a listen, I’ll be sure to update the post when it’s available on itunes and the lot.
Motion Book
Last summer, I worked with 9 fantastic dancers to create the 32 final images of my Motion series.
Today, I’m offering a 9×12″ book of the entire set of 32 images custom printed by AdoramaPix here in NYC for $149. These are not your typical 4-color CMYK printed photo books. Adorama actually hand-builds the books from real c-prints (that’s actual photo prints on Fuji paper). You’re essentially buying a full set of 8×10″ prints of Motion bound into a book. They’re expensive to produce, but honestly, they look great. In fact, this is one of the books I carry around as part of my portfolio. If it’s good enough for me to put my reputation on, it’ll be super as a gift or look amazing on your coffee table.
16×20″ signed prints are also available at http://wadmaneditions.com/prints_motion.html. Normally $500 each, I’m going to lower the price to $350 for just this week. So if you’ve been thinking about getting one. Or two, or three. Now’s the time.
You can actually flip through the book using this widget below. And if you decide that you like it, click Order Now and they’ll get to work building your copy. If in the process or ordering they ask if you want them to “Correct” the images, say NO! They’re perfectly correct as is, thanks.
If you have any trouble with the widget, you can also get order here
Sodafrog CD
Finally got my hands on a copy of the latest cd from Boston artist Sodafrog. I fit into the picture because I shot the cover. Came out nice I think.
Go over here and take a listen. If you like, support artists and buy the record.
Drabbles wins Adorama Book Contest
Got word today that my Drabbles book won Best Photography Book (or something like that) in the Adorama book contest.
You can check out the other winners and such over here.
And of course, while you’re already there… Go buy a copy of Drabbles! It’s a very pretty book if I do say so myself.
FYI, when ordering, make sure you say “No corrections” if it asks. Don’t want anybody messing with my finely tuned color and density work.
Day 40: K. Harrison Sweeney
Day 27: Youri
The ever delightful Youri Cho, who even went out in the snow in ballet dress for the sake of my art.
What’s in a Bag?
Here to the left is the green “North Face” backpack I bought for my trip to Japan a couple years ago. It’s perfect for a week long trip the way I travel, which is very lightly. My sister recently gave me crap about it saying, “Sure you only carry one little bag, but you’re wearing the same thing in every picture”. Perhaps, true enough. I’m all about comfort and layers, so be it. At least I can carry my luggage around with me which gives me a certain sense of freedom when I’m abroad. If you’re the kind of person that has 2 big suitcases with them when they travel, you should try my way next time. I’ve found it pretty great.
Well this little green bag has proved to be a pretty great photo bag as well. I’ve got a couple expensive Crumpler bags (I really like my Crumpler bags, they’re not cheap but they hold up and look cool) which I use much of the time (one backpack like this one and a shoulder type like this one), but sometimes I need to carry a bit more than just my camera and a lenses or two with me. The setup that can fit in this bag is what I used for most of the Drabbles shoots, which gives you some idea of it’s versatility.
